True story: I remember when I first came across Coldplay, in my callow
youth as a Canadian undergraduate. My friends and I listened to a
bootlegged copy of Parachutes and thought that we were way cool to
have cottoned on to this super hip underground indie British band that
no one had heard of. (I told you I was callow.)Little did I dream, that cold Canadian winter, that one day I would read about them handing out tickets for free to a Brixton Academy gig and find myself wondering why, since surely their forty-something middle-class Tory-voting fan base can afford to pay?
