It was one thing when ITV got stung for ripping off innocent (although perhaps not knife-sharp) callers who phone in to their competitions. I was fairly untroubled at the prospect that the resultant fine might compromise the quality of GMTV. But the Beeb? Today, SKY chirpily reports that £106,000 of money that phoners-in thought they were pledging to charity in exchange for the pleasure of voting in the Eurovision Song Contest and so on
didn't actually get sent to charity. Due to the apparent general shambolic approach to management at the Beeb, this is not an entirely surprising development, but I reserve the right to feel appalled and even more resentful of the £43 annually that I shell out for the licence on my black and white television.
